183d Fighter Wing Redesignated as 183d Wing

Col. John Patterson, Commander, 183d Fighter Wing, gives the command to present arms, and the guidons are lowered, as the order is read to redesignate the unit as the 183d Wing, a name reflective of the unit’s diverse missions. The name change followed the Wing’s transition from a fighter unit to the next echelon in military aviation, which includes major engine repair and command and control of air operations.
