CMSgt Rebecca L. Velazquez is the Command Chief Master Sergeant, 183d Wing, Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport, Springfield, Illinois. In this position, she advises the wing commander on matters of health, morale, welfare, training, professional development of the 800 airmen assigned to the 183d Wing. The wing’s mission is to provide support to the Air Force and Air National Guard with an Air Operations Group, Centralized Engine Repair Facility, Medical Group, Mission Support Group, and an Engineering and Installation Squadron. The 183d Wing’s unique missions support wartime contingencies for 12th Air Force, Regular Air Force, and the Air National Guard. Additionally, the wing supports state and civil authorities during times of crisis, and natural or man-made disasters.
She entered the United States Air Force in August 1998. Upon graduation from technical training as a Personnelist in April 1999, she was assigned to Holloman Air Force Base, N.M. where she worked in Reenlistments and Extensions, Separations and Retirements, and Commanders Support Staff. Her next assignment was to Kadena Air Base, Japan where she worked in two different Commanders Support Staffs. During her assignment in Japan, she was awarded the Pacific Air Force Commander Logistics Support Professional of the Year for 2002. Her next assignment was to Scott AFB, Ill., where she worked in Customer Service, Reenlistments and Extensions, Officer and Enlisted Evaluations, Personnel Employments and Force Management. In 2006, while assigned to Scott AFB, Ill. she was deployed to Balad AB, Iraq for five months as a Personnel Support for Contingency Operations team member in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. She joined the 932d Airlift Wing, Air Force Reserve in September 2008 where she was selected as the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge, Personnel Relocations which later transitioned to Career Development during the Air Force restructure of Mission Support Squadrons. While assigned to the 932d Airlift Wing, she was selected as the 932d Airlift Wing Non-Commissioned Officer and Civilian of the Year in 2009. In September 2013, she was selected as a Production Recruiter with the Illinois Air National Guard assigned to the 183d Fighter Wing, Springfield, Illinois. In August 2015, she transitioned back to personnel as the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge, Career Development with the 183d Force Support Squadron. During this time, she was selected as the 183d Wing Senior Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year 2017. In 2019, she retrained in Administration and was the Executive Administrative Assistant to the 183d Wing Commander and served as the Administration Functional Manager for the wing.
Prior to her current assignment, she was the Superintendent, Commanders Support Staff, 183d Air Operations Group, Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport, Springfield, Ill. She managed the Commanders Support Staff and provided administrative support to 200 assigned personnel.
